Major Change

Starting college has always been the next step after high school. In the beginning going to college for Business made sense at the time because everyone should learn and understand the ins and outs of a business. Today with a few weeks before graduation the outcome is very different, finishing with a Communication degree in Media Production. Majoring in business it brought no creativity. Business is all books and numbers and being hands on with a project is what a real accomplishment is. There is a thin line between what I major in and visual communication. With the skills of a media production person they are able to create a memory, either through picture, videos, posters, flyers, brochures, chemicals etc. Creating a memory is the most important impression any busy would want to leave with viewers and future buyers. By being the one to do that is reasons for changing majors from Business to Communication.

Three companies that have strong communication would be Nike, CNN, and Coca-Cola. These three companies are well known all over the world and have been for more than a decade. Each company has promoted themselves in ways that if all a viewer could see is their logo without any words attached to them they would know exactly what company it was. Nike is a sporting goods company. They create clothing, sneakers, and sporting equipment. By doing more than just creating one brand of item with their business they have opened themselves up to allowing people with different interest to come to their stores and take part in what they have to offer. CNN is a news channel. It provides not only local news but also worldwide events for all to see. CNN has created themselves to be the “GO TO” channel for everyone to know what is happening in the world. Because CNN has all the latest stories it opens doors for different viewers. Last Coca-Cola is a soda company known nationally. Coca-Cola has created different commercials so that it may relate to future buyers. At times the company includes different images from that country it is promoting in. Coca-Cola wants it’s consumers to feel as though they are a part of their creative business plan.

In conclusion, To have successful communication you must know your viewers. Knowing your viewers helps with going in the right direction of a project or meeting. Necessary tools to knowing in the very beginning would be age, race, gender, location, interests, dislikes etc. Once these things are understood then moving on to the next step can become easier when creating this visual proposal. Images, colors, shapes, sizes, important figures of people chosen, and choice of words used are all important factors along with timing are things to include having good a outcome of visual communication. These things are only very important in today’s society because many have short attention span. So everything that is presented must lead into the next and not only grab the mind of the viewers, but to keep their full focus. Visual communication is key in any business or project.
